The work outlook for the Eastern District is phenomenal.
I would like to bring recognition to the crew of millwrights that performed the outage at Plant Addison in Thomaston, Georgia. This outage was the first time a union contractor went in to perform the inspection of the gas unit. This inspection led to a full major.
Southern Company added Plant Franklin located in Smith’s Station, Ala. to our outage list this year due to the outstanding job performed. Congratulations to the APM team for a great job that directly led to the addition of several more gas unit outages.
We have been growing in opportunities inside the Carolinas! We are currently working on baggage conveyors inside Columbia, S.C. Airport, a winery in Fort Mill, S.C., converting a miller brewery into a dog food plant in Eden N.C., and Amazon in Charlotte, N.C. Also we have several outages in the Carolinas for gas units IE. WS Lee, Plant Sutton, Sherwood Smith.
Georgia is on fire with opportunities. TA Smith in Dalton, Johns Manville in Winder, FedEx in Ellenwood, Walmart in Douglas, baggage conveyor at Atlanta airport, and multiple paper mills along coastal Georgia.
North Florida continues to host multiple papermill outages throughout the year as well as powerhouse work in Palatka.
As busy as we are in the first quarter of 2022, I can say we will be busier in 2023. There are some upcoming projects that we will be releasing as we confirm with our contractor partners, but as of now the numbers we are being told with the projects starting next year are around 500 new positions in addition to our regular workload available between North Carolina and Georgia.
Our team has been putting in overtime recruiting new members to try and fill the need. Please check with your local agents before you confirm working outside our jurisdiction, we are struggling to man the projects inside our area while most of the members we talk with are traveling outside the local area. We anticipate a moderate to heavy workload this year so please get on the out-of-work list as soon as you are able.
