Unrivaled Training Programs

Training is the backbone of all SSMRC millwrights. They might work in different disciplines and have vastly different areas of expertise, but SSMRC millwrights are known as one of the most highly trained workforces in the industries we serve. That means mastery of the most up-to-date installation, repair, and maintenance methods. That means knowledge of the latest industry tools. And that means adhering to the most stringent safety measures. Our training is continuously upgraded and expanded to keep pace with industry trends and partner needs.

Our SSMRC training program has facilities throughout our 11-state territory. Use the map below to see our locations and link to our regional training course schedules.

Southern States Millwrights are trained to standards that produce the same highly skilled labor regardless of location. Whether we work in the booming oil and gas industries along America’s Gulf Coast or the surging automotive and material-handling industries throughout the 11 Southern states of the USA, our standardized training ensures every millwright possesses the same superior skills.

Union training gives our industry partners a competitive edge.

Contractors who employ SSMRC millwrights have access to unlimited, ongoing training for any project — according to standards that produce the same highly skilled labor regardless of location. Each year, the UBC invests millions of dollars in training our members, from first-year apprentices to superintendents.

Journeymen benefit from skill-upgrade classes to help keep them on the cutting edge of innovations in materials and techniques. Educated, experienced foremen and superintendents receive specialized training designed to sharpen their supervisory skills. We build on millwrights’ on-the-job experience by adding leadership skills to help them motivate workers, communicate effectively, and solve problems. We even offer customized training if a project needs it, and we provide training onsite, if that’s what it takes.

The UBC’s 1.2-million-square-foot International Training Center in Las Vegas is the largest and most comprehensive facility of its kind in the world. At this campus, millwrights expand their skills by working on gas and steam turbines, compressors,  pumps,  two 35-ton overhead bridge cranes and four 20-ton overhead bridge cranes. It’s a thriving testament to the UBC’s commitment to skills development and productivity and to building strength as a union and an industry partner.

Preparing millwrights for safer work

Safety is a critical component of training for millwrights. SSMRC millwrights complete safety training that is developed in conjunction with OSHA to provide safety programs for a variety of specialties. We think safety is so important that we’ll provide safety training for our industry partners’ employees.

Qualification programs

For SSMRC millwrights, training is one piece of the puzzle. The other is qualification. Our qualification requirements ensure every SSMRC millwright is equipped for success in the field and on the job.
