The SSMRC was a major sponsor of the annual Unity Run, held in Whitney, Texas, and benefiting Resource Recovery Council, a nonprofit that provides mental and behavioral health care to those recovering from alcohol and substance-use disorders and trauma in 20 North Texas counties. The run was organized by Survivors M/C Clean & Sober of N.E. Texas, which presented $13,000 in donations to Eric Niedermayer, CEO of Recovery Resource Council. Niedermayer said those donation dollars would be matched by the Charles Schwab Colonial Country Club Birdies for Charities program.
The 75-year-old Recovery Resource Council provides drug-and-alcohol treatment options, school-based prevention services, and therapy and housing services for veterans. Members of the AA community started the agency in the 1940s, and it is accredited by The Joint Commission and licensed as a substance-abuse treatment outpatient center by the state of Texas.
