Eastern Region Work Updates – December 2021

Local 1263:

We are working with the following contractors at the listed facilities.

  • APM – Plant Yates maintenance is ongoing.
  • Ashton – Plant Bowen maintenance is ongoing.
  • RCC – Plant Vogtle work in Waynesboro, Georgia, is ongoing.
  • APM – Plant Bowen outage work is in progress.
  • Player – Shop work is occurring.  
  • IPC Lydon – Hartsfield Airport maintenance is ongoing.
  • Action – Work is ongoing in the shop.
  • APM – Plant Addison uutage work goes through Dec. 23.
  • Griffin Industrial – Work is in progress at Nestle Purina in Eden, North Carolina.
  • CR Meyer – We are working at First Quality in Anderson, South Carolina.
  • Ram Industries begain working at the Ernest and Julio Gallo wine bottling plant in Fort Lawn, South Carolina, on Dec. 7.

Upcoming Work:

  • Genesys-Knauf has two projects: demolishing forming conveyor and installing new assembly and rebuilding an existing oven. There will be two shifts on each project starting Jan. 12 through Feb. 27. Approximately 30 millwrights will be needed.
  • Siemens outage at Plant Bowen lasts through Dec. 20, and 11 journey-level millwrights are working on the project.
  • Western Industrial will be at USPS Northwest Atlanta doing a demo job in a sorting facility. Duration will be approximately 6-12 months. The projected start date is Feb. 25, and millwrights will work 6-10’s.
  • APM will be at TA Smith starting in April. Approximately 75 millwrights are needed.
  • Shouldice will be working at BMW in Greer, South Carolina, starting Dec. 22 for a holiday shutdown.

Local 1000:

  • We are working power-generation jobs with SGS, APM, and TOPS Field Services.
  • Western Industrial is still working on a FedEx project at Miami Airport.
  • Western Industrial is also working on another FedEx Ground facility in Miami.
  • We are working in Orlando Airport with Vanderlande.
  • We’re also working at Fort Lauderdale airports with Jordim.
  • We are working in the phosphate industry with Central Maintenance, Gulf Coast Industrial, and Preferred Maintenance. There is an ongoing need for millwrights with phosphate mine cards.
  • A&B maintenance work at Gopher Recycling is ongoing.
  • We have a brand new can plant (Florida Can). We are installing all the conveyors and mechanical equipment.
  • We are working in a shingle facility (GAF) for Central Maintenance and Welding.
  • We have been doing maintenance and some new installs of equipment in several operational Amazon facilities in Central and South Florida.
  • We may have a project at Kennedy Space Center coming soon.
  • We are gaining market share in food-and-beverages plants throughout our jurisdiction with W. Soule.

Local 2411:

  • Coker is currently working on a project in Tampa. They are continuing one-day outages locally.
  • Milton J. Wood has work coming up after the first of the year. Currently they are keeping their year-round employees busy.
  • W.W. Gay is currently working at JEA Northside with its regulars. They are looking to bring in one journey-level millwright to work supplemental nightshift at West Fraser sawmill in Baldwin. If interested, please contact Robert Jeffers. W.W. Gay is also working to secure more projects locally, but looks to be slow until after the first of the year.
  •  J Williams is continuing with the GP maintenance contract. This contractor has picked up the outage every Monday at USG and is pursuing all other local outages.
  • Gen Industrial is working at a couple local plants and is actively pursuing more local projects.
  • Cogburn is looking to secure some mission mine supplemental help as well as pursuing other projects. Work will be slow until after the first of the year. Cogburn is also working to secure more local outages and projects for the start of next year.
  • APM is working on the generators at the Seminole plant in Palatka.
  • Vigneaux is looking for one millwright to add to payroll permanently. Travel will be often and mandatory. If interested, please contact Robert Jeffers.
