Eastern Region work updates – November 2021

Local 1000:

  • We have been working power-generation jobs with SGS, APM, and TOPS Field Services.
  • Western Industrial is working on a FedEx project at Miami Airport.
  • Western Industrial is also working on another FedEx Ground facility in Miami.
  • We’re back working on the Miami Transit Project doing warranty work with Sissco Hoist.
  • We are working in Orlando Airport with Vanderlande.
  • We’re also working at Fort Lauderdale airports with Jordim.
  • We are working in the phosphate industry with Central Maintenance, Gulf Coast Industrial, and Preferred Maintenance. There is an ongoing need for millwrights with phosphate mine cards.
  • A&B maintenance work at Gopher Recycling is ongoing.
  • We have a brand new can plant (Florida Can). We are installing all the conveyors and mechanical equipment.
  • We are working in a shingle facility (GAF) for Central Maintenance and Welding.
  • We have been doing maintenance and some new installs of equipment in several operational Amazon facilities in Central and South Florida with GCI. GCI is also doing work in Wedgeworth in South Florida.
  • We have work with APM and SGS for our fall outages.
  • Vanderlande is pursuing the maintenance work on the conveyors we installed at Orlando airport.
  • We are working on signing Lightning Bay Companies in Tampa.
  • The local is working with a few tech schools in Florida to recruit new members.

Local 1263:

We are working with the following contractors at the listed facilities.

  • Vulcan – Plant Bowen outage work will last through late November.
  • Southern Air Specialists – Plant Bowen fan replacement is in progress.
  • Ashton – Plant Bowen maintenance is ongoing.
  • RCC – Plant Vogtle work in Waynesboro, Georgia, is ongoing.
  • APM – Plant Bowen outage work is in progress.
  • Ethos – Work at Graphic Packaging is in progress.
  • IPC Lydon – Hartsfield Airport maintenance is ongoing.
  • Western Industrial – Work in Marietta and Ellenwood is in progress. We’re also working at a FedEx facility in Charlotte, N.C.
  • Action – Ongoing work in the shop.
  • J. Williams – Maintenance is ongoing at GP Brunswick.
  • Turbine Pros – Kings Mountain power station work is taking place in Gastonia, N.C.
  • Griffin Industrial – The Amazon project in Mebane, N.C., will be finishing soon.

Upcoming Work:

  • Genesys – Two projects at WestRock: demolishing a forming conveyor and installing a new assembly; and rebuilding an existing oven. Two shifts on each project start Jan. 12 and run through Feb. 27. Approximately 30 millwrights are needed.
  • Griffin Industrial – The Purina Mills project in Eden, N.C. is set to start this month.

Local 2411:

  • Coker is working in Tampa. They are pursuing more work opportunities locally as well.
  • Milton J. Wood is actively pursuing millwrights to work on various upcoming projects they are bidding on through the winter months.
  • W.W. Gay has picked up some work at the JEA Northside plant and will need 10-15 millwrights on both day and night shifts. The company is also working at four other plants in the jurisdiction and is pursuing additional work opportunities as well.
  •  J Williams is continuing with the GP Brunswick maintenance contract. The company has picked up the outage every Monday at USG and is pursuing other local outages.
  • GenIndustrial is working at a local plant and is actively pursuing more projects.
  • Cogburn is currently bidding a project in St. Augustine, and it will be looking to add about six millwrights if the bid is successful. Cogburn is also working to secure more local outages and projects throughout the rest of the year.
  • Vigneaux is looking to add one more millwright to payroll. We need one individual to place with them as a permanent hire (40+ hours per week with some travel involved).
