Central Region work updates – November 2021

Fall outage work is very busy for our members across the Central Region. We have many power-generation projects taking place now or coming up at various sites as well as paper-mill and refinery work.

Please reach out to your business agent and put yourself on the out-of-work list if you are available for work. If you are traveling outside of your home local jurisdiction for work, check in with the local that has jurisdiction where you are procuring work.

Please take advantage of all opportunities to enhance your skill sets (forklift, welding, aerial lift, rigging) through the training department. As always, let’s do things right the first time, on time, every time while being safe, professional, and productive!

We are working with the following contractors at the listed facilities.

Local 1192:

Power generation has been a work-hour producer for Local 1192 millwrights this fall.

  • Atlantic Plant Maintenance has projects underway along the Gulf Coast at Theodore, Washington County Co-Gen, and also work at Plant Barry.
  • Fluor has a major balance-of-plant project at Plant Barry that could last through the end of the year.
  • Pennington Papermill has a lot of fall work that will employ many members with two different contractors, C.R. Meyer and Boldt. Please put your name on the out-of-work list and call your agent if you are interested in working on these projects.
  • Plant Wilsonville is well underway, with APM working on the turbines and D&Z doing the balance-of-plant work, employing many members onsite.
  • Universal Plant Services has a major project coming up at Chevron in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Please reach out to Lessie Roberts for site requirements if you are interested in working on this project.

Local 1554:

Local 1554 has various projects kicking off across its footprint.

  • General Motors is ramping up, currently employing more than 150 millwrights, and is expected to employ more than 330 millwrights by year’s end. Call Steve Williams if you are interested in this long-term project.
  • Atlantic Plant Maintenace has projects underway at both John Sevier and TVA Plant Allen.
  • Superior recently kicked off its project at the Bridgestone Plant in Lavergne, Tennessee.
  • GUMBK has work for members at TVA Cumberland City.
  • We will need all hands on deck for the fall automotive shutdowns. Please put your name on Mix and reach out to your agent if you are available for work.
