Thousands of solutions to the Gulf Coast oil & gas industry manpower shortage…
The surge of oil and gas production along America’s Gulf Coast created a skilled labor shortage, including the millwrights needed to install and maintain mechanical operations. The SSMRC anticipated this shortage and began prepping to alleviate it years ago. As a result, thousands of highly skilled, credentialed, professional SSMRC millwrights are ready to deploy. Each learned from the same standardized training curriculum, which means new hires are just as skilled as experienced local millwrights.
The Right Training to Get the Job Done
Our intensive training creates leaders who promote a productive and safe jobsite with their work ethic and positive attitude. UBC millwrights are trained, tested, and credentialed for work in oil refineries, chemical plants, gas pipelines, natural gas processing units and more.
They have honed their technical skills for exploration, development, drilling, production, and decommissioning projects — and are prepared to expertly install, construct, repair, and maintain multi-million-dollar production and refinery equipment such as stationary and industrial engines, compressors, and pumps.
Our reputation for excellence includes rigging and signaling, welding, alignment, and fabrications.
Continually Evolving Instruction
As trends emerge and standards evolve in the Gulf Coast construction industry, training programs are developed and presented so that our millwrights meet the challenges encountered on the jobsite. Our millwrights and instructors learn from hands-on training with the most advanced equipment and tools available in this industry.
Training Spotlight: Compressors
At the Gulf Coast Millwright Training Center in Houston, a section of the 16,000 square feet of training space houses two reciprocating compressors. The 40-hour compressor training class covers every level of compressors: basic knowledge of compressors and how they work, disassembly, problem diagnosis, and reassembly to exact specifications.
Attracting and Retaining Manpower
This is now a primary business objective for oil and gas production companies. By working with SSMRC millwrights, you can rely on our programs. There’s no need to create your own training program, vet the qualifications of tech school programs, or wait for other training programs to produce graduates. You won’t need to spend resources on out-of-state or out-of-region workers or fund a menu of perks and incentives to keep existing employees. And you will never wonder whether your crew will be productive and safe.
Special Attention to Safety
There is no substitute for solid attention to safety, and the SSMRC believes a safe work site is achieved only by comprehensive training for every millwright on every project. Our members must complete and achieve mastery of the following health and safety training programs:
- Blood Borne Pathogens
- Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation
- Confined Space Worker Safety
- Fall Arrest
- Hazardous Waste Worker Safety
- Lock-Out/Tag-Out Safety
- Safety Data Sheet Competency
- Millwright Health and Safety 16-Hour Course
- Occupational Safety and Health Act 30-Hour Course
- Scaffold User Safety
