Brothers and Sisters,
It has been a busy spring season for the nuclear industry. Nearly all seventeen projects for the spring of 2023 season have started or will be starting soon. These projects are expected to end at the middle or end of May.
The spring season produced a lot of work for our members, requesting manpower of around 800 millwrights.
Certifications in millwright crane operation are always in demand and seemingly short supply.I would also encourage members to take advantage of our training facilities and the opportunities to enhance your skills. Rigging, hytorc, OSHA 30, turbine familiarization, and human performance certifications are requested from most all our partnering contractors.
A great attitude is probably at the top of the list for a successful career starter, followed by proper training and mentorship programs the SSMRC has to offer.
The SSMRC wants to have members that are the safest, most productive, and professional millwrights in the trade, which can be achieved by having the right attitude and training.
I am honored to be serving as the nuclear representative for the SSMRC. I have some very big shoes to fill as Mr. Bonds enters retirement. He has been a great mentor, friend, and deserves all the happiness in retirement.
In solidarity,
Steve Williams
Nuclear Representative
